Week Eight - Monsters, Robots, Fairies & Mermaids
This students made their own 3D monsters, robots, fairies, and mermaids using Play-Doh and a variety of other materials (straws, popsicle sticks, string, and toothpicks).
They first had to draw up a basic plan on paper. Then they had to execute their plan using the materials given. It was really cool to see some of them pivot to new ideas when their original plan did not pan out.
At first, it seemed like a daunting task to them. But once they started working with the materials, they tossed their doubts out the window and let their creativity flow. I’m glad they could see what was possible when they put forth their best effort.
Celine (Kindergarten) loves animals and thoughtfully included a water bowl and food for her pet.
Mariana's (2nd Grade) exceptional mermaid was the class favorite. Having her subject pose for the viewer really took it up a notch.
Dylan (1st Grade) methodically planned out his robot and I feel it shows in his final work. He made mature color choices and, instead of using the materials per se, used them to add texture to his piece.
Leila (Kindergarten) did a terrific job executing her fairy plan. Due limitations in Play-Doh colors and materials , she had to adapt which she did brilliantly.
