Week Four - Drawing Faces
This week’s challenge was to draw the human face.
A deceptively difficult task at any age, I pushed them to really look at the details and visually record what they saw.
“What is the basic shape of this person’s head?”
”Does the pupil of eye touch the tops and bottoms of the eye opening?”
”What shape is this person’s nose?”
I’m very pleased with their courage and honest, earnest approach. I feel like the majority had a good opportunity to really flex those hand, eye, and brain muscles.
What I love about Arden's (Kindergarten) work is that she listened to my advice about really trying to capture the emotion in the person's face.
Ayla (1st Grade) just wanted to draw pretty girl faces, but I urged her to take a shot at boy faces. And I'm thrilled she did. She took her time, really studied the subject, and executed with an honest and thoughtful stroke.
I thought Madelyn (1st Grade) successfully captured the warmth and kindness of the subject. With any instruction, she knew the woman's eyes were very dark and arched, very different from what I explained.
